Houston, TX, (October 13, 2010)–Kru Kayan Sitsanthaparn, owner and president of Rio Grande Valley Ocelots FC, confirmed his team’s intent to join the Southern Premier Soccer League (SPSL) today. Ocelots FC will take the field in the Spring 2011 season.
The Rio Grande Valley club formerly competed in the United Soccer League (USL) Premier Development League (PDL) during the 2009 and 2010 season (as the Bravos) but submitted its letter of intent to SPSL President Stephen Heisler today. Bravos FC plays at the 2,500-capacity Brownsville Sports Park.
“We are excited to usher in a new era of soccer tradition in the Rio Grande Valley and know that the region will be buzzing with anticipation as to the identity of the SPSL and with the new developments that our team has in store for our fans and the community through our participation,” Sitsanthaparn said.
The SPSL is an amateur soccer league in its inaugural season, which kicked-off at the beginning of October and will continue through March. Currently, six teams from Texas and Oklahoma comprise the league. Along with Rio Grande Valley, the Memphis Rogues have been declared an expansion club set to make its debut in the fall of 2011.
The SPSL is always looking to expand. Teams throughout the Southern United States are welcome to apply.
